The Sex Shrink Scandal: An Expert Weighs In

news003a.jpg

Things are heating up in the case of New York City hot tamale ‘Sex Shrink’ Magdalena Sanchez a 35 year-old, clinical psychologist who allegedly wears tight skirts and carried on a five-month sexual affair with prison inmate Demetrius Hill while he was under her care at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.

What makes this story so salacious, as if the above weren’t enough, is that Sanchez is married to handsome, rich, white, (not that THAT has anything to do with it), Wall Street trader Joshua Spitz, 34, who went to Harvard Business School and lives with her in a swanky Philip Johnson designed Donald Trump building on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. What would make a woman of Sanchez’s means seek refuge in the arms of a common thug? Theories abound.

news005.jpgFirst the New York Post reported that Hill is a ‘manipulative Romeo’ who seems to have a thing for women in powerful prison positions citing he allegedly had a previous affair with a Nassau County corrections officer who provided the getaway car for a robbing spree of his. Then they quoted an unnamed corrections officer at the Metropolitan Detention Center as saying, "I don't know what the big deal is. This s- - - happens all the time.” Now, the Post has gotten hold of Sanchez’s doctoral thesis in which she writes that Latinas are culturally trained to be too weak to fight off male advances. To get to the bottom of all this, Guanabee sought the expert advice of another Latina who used to counsel inmates incarcerated in the state of New Jersey back in the late 1990's. We'll call her LC short for Latina Counselor.

Guanabee: So you really used to counsel inmates? What are your credentials?

LC: I worked in the Camden County Correctional Facility for approximately five years in the late '90's. I have a master's degree in Counseling Psychology. And, yes I really counseled inmates-both male and female.

Guanabee: So what’s up? Is everybody getting busy in the prison system or what?

LC: The short answer is yes. However, the vast majority of hook-ups were between staff members. When I was there, it was a giant incestuous pool of hyperactive sexual adults and partners were often shared without so much as a blink of an eye. Most of these hook ups occurred between staff members who considered themselves "happily married" to a spouse that did not work in the system. It’s hard for others outside the system to understand the pressure of the job you have. You begin to think, "If only my spouse understood how difficult my job was I wouldn't have to find solace in so-and-so's arms." This causes illicit relationships to develop rather quickly.

In reference to sex between staff and inmates, I would say this occurred from time to time but it was not a regular thing. It was looked down upon- sort of like "you must be desperate to go there!”

Guanabee: We know from personal experience that you, too, are a hot, chili pepper of a Latin woman who often wears skirts deemed too tight. Did this ever come into play during your work in the prison system?

LC: Well first of all, thank you for the compliment! And, yes I'm quite fond of wearing short skirts and tight low cut tops. Like my grandma always said, "If you got it mi hija then flaunt it!" However, at the correctional facility where I worked there were very strict rules on dress codes that were enforced. Although I'm one that generally scoffs at following the rules, this was one rule that I thought made lots of sense and that I followed daily. So, in answer to your question, no it never came into to play during the time I worked there.

Guanabee: Did you ever consider jumping a thug’s bones?

LC: No. I never had problems remembering what the professional boundaries were (although it’s kinda hard to get past the very attractive orange jumpsuit and plastic flip flops they wear everyday). I must admit there were several hot chaps that made the rounds through my office that I thought I would consider a romp in the sack with had I met them in some bar on the outside.

Guanabee: Spicy! So do you think that’s why Sanchez would seek refuge in the arms of a known felon when she had a hot, rich guy at home, not to mention her career on the line?

LC: Obviously she is not happily married and/or very well adjusted. Even though her hubby may seem "all that" from an outsider's perspective, it's clear that things must not have been all peaches and cream. Maybe he has a little dick. That could be problematic.

Guanabee: We would definitely let her off the hook with that defense were we the judge.

LC: Without knowing anything about Ms. Sanchez…

Guanabee: Oh don’t let that stop you.

LC: I'd guess she didn't have the most idyllic childhood- she's searching for something that was missing in her life whether it is her marriage or some childhood issue she is trying to resolve.

Guanabee: Totally. Just this past weekend, we made a pass at the Chinese delivery guy because we’re still upset over that Easy Bake Oven our parents never bought us…Anyway, for those of our readers who may currently be in the prison system, what are you wearing right now?

LC: Running shorts, two jogging bras (I just had a baby), and a t-shirt.

Guanabee: Uh, thanks. I’m sure someone in New Jersey will enjoy that.

So there you have it. The prison system: a cesspool of wanton sexual dysfunction. And that’s just the staff. Stay tuned to Guanabee as the fascinating tale of the ‘Sex Shrink’ unfolds.
