American Apparel Exploits Someone Other Than Mexicans, Young Girls

allen.jpg

Perhaps sweat-shop free Mexicans don’t have the same resonance on the east coast that Woody Allen in ringlets (actually called peyes, we know; we’re not culturally ignorant, just smartass) does. We snapped this American Apparel billboard (hey, photojournalism) in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The sign clearly plays to the neighborhood, being that the LES, once a Jewish ghetto, is now gentrified and home to many young trust-funders of the same persuasion. But what does Woody Allen have to do with selling tshirts that are “sweatshop free”?

american_apparel_ad.jpg The blogosphere is full of people willing to do journalism and Jewlicious (who conspicuously have American Apparel banner ads up on their site) called the American Apparel headquarters for a comment to which the person on the phone replied, “Woody Allen is our spiritual leader.” Well, that explains the underage looking girls in most of their other ads. Paging Sun-Yi!

This Just In: Woody Allen spotted in LA, too.
