And Your Morning Coffee Was Never The Same Again

The latest unwilling tool in McDonald’s arsenal of Latino-geared marketing is “Las Mañanitas”, the traditional folk tune sung to Mexican birthday celebrants every morning they turn a year older. The fast food behemoth’s New York Tri-State Area Co-Op has announced that a multimedia campaign based on the song will promote the free cup of coffee you get in exchange for buying a particular meal, and for witnessing the exploitation of your fondest childhood memories firsthand. Further complicating your morning routine is fake TV reporter Yosí T. Informo (a Spanish play on words meaning “I Truly Inform You” that truly makes us retch), an undercover McDonald’s-pusher poised to infiltrate the golden arches near you:
Fashioned after the style and behavior of news reporters and the sense of urgency associated with them, Señor Yosí T. Informo walks into a McDonald’s restaurant to interview and mingle with customers. Microphone in hand, the jovial Informo not only gets everyone to opine about McDonald’s breakfast platters and coffee, but also finds himself in the middle of some spontaneous performances of “Las Mañanitas” by customers.
Imagine if they’re actually serious about this gimmick! We figure strolling in for a coffee only to be interrogated by a fictitious journalist and surrounded by singing idiots at least constitutes a mild narcotic trip. Pick-me-up, indeed.
