We took note of Romanian contemporary artist Dan Perjovschi’s first solo show in the U.S. because of the whimsical way he illustrates American current events through simple line drawings. Not surprisingly, one of the topics he chooses to depict is immigration. Perjovschi says the show entitled “WHAT HAPPENED TO US?” is inspired by the media whose coverage of current events, he says, is almost infantile. (No!) Hence, his deceptively humorous and simplistic style. After the jump see more drawings and part one of a two part video interview conducted by MOMA curator Roxana Marcoci.

If you’re in the New York area, Perjovschi’s show runs until August 27th. If not, you’re in luck. There’s a pretty nice online exhibit at the MOMA site.
