Daryl Hannah Makes A Splash in Ecuador. In Other News, Headline Writes Itself.
7 June 2007, 4:00 PM. By Carlos Posas
U.K. daily The Independent chronicles the derring-do of the 41 year-old actress and rabid environmentalist who’s spent her last week on the equator trudging through toxic sludge, lending an ear to indigenous folks from the Amazonian region affected by Texaco’s waste, and seeking an audience with leftist Ecuadorian president and Hugo Chávez ally Rafael Correa. We can’t quite decide which of the three was the least pleasant. Hannah even got Pocahontas to join her (sadly, it wasn’t the hot, animated version) and took a shot at contemporary society while she was at it:
Environmentalists say the blight is slow-motion genocide. Indigenous tribes have seen their numbers shrivel to almost nothing because they have either fled or succumbed to disease. “Obviously they’re suffering severely,” Ms Hannah told the Associated Press. “A host of horrors have come their way with the advent of supposed civilisation.”
You wanna talk severe suffering? Guanabee saw what happened when you took on that other pretty blonde in Kill Bill.
