Film Festival Jumps On Latino Celebrity Bandwagon

NYILFF_06_21_07.png The New York International Latino Film Festival runs from June 24-29. The movie jamboree showcases over 80 U.S. and International films and features “some of the most impressive talent in the industry, such as Wilmer Valderrama,” (we didn’t say so; they did). The celebrations open with the film “Trade”, a raw and powerful film about international human trafficking, and closes with “El Cantante”, a salsa music epic starring Marc Anthony as the legendary Hector Lavoe, and Jennifer Lopez as his wife. Both sound depressing, only one is meant to be so. Although, we hear that “El Cantante” is not as bad as it looks.

Ironically, the one film that caught our eye is “El Muerto,” starring Valderrama:

“El Muerto” follows Diego de la Muerte, a 21-year-old Latino-American living in East L.A., who is sent to the Land of the Dead after he is killed in a car crash.

Adding to the fun, the festival hosts various events, such as Dominican Night! We would tell you what its all about but no further description was provided—we can only assume that this means watching a movie without being able to hear to a single word.

The film festival attaches itself to the bandwagon of Latino success in Hollywood. We can only hope that the films are as good.
