A very curious piece of information just landed in our inbox today about the National Council of La Raza ALMA Awards airing on ABC tonight. Now, normally we would never, EVER watch a show like the ALMA Awards, but apparently it’s what passes for Latino culture these days. So in keeping with the “commentary” part of our job description, we’ll be liveblogging the whole thing or as much of it as we can stand before we want to shoot our television. Which is why we were mildly intrigued when an email from their PR team ended up in our mailbox stating that Austin-based band Grupo Fantasma (a Latin jazz/funk fusion band whose albums we actually own) will appear on the show backing up none other than Prince. Yes, THAT Prince. Yes, the Black one. Yes, the one from Minneapolis. Purple Rain, yes. We were skeptical, too, but a few clicks of the mouse revealed to us that the two have been touring together at least in Miami. After the jump check out some shoddy, but rocking video of Prince and the boys wailing on a Rolling Stones influenced cover of “Oye Como Va” to whet your appetite.

Clearly producer/hostess Eva Longoria has some tricks up her sleeve for us tonight. So log on to Guanabee where we’ll be reporting the whole, unnatural occurance along with our impressions in real-time for you, dear reader(s?)
