Taking the opportunity to bore American TV viewers in two languages, Spanish-language channel Univisión has proposed that this fall’s broadcast of campaign-inaugurating presidential debates be conducted (drumroll, please)…in Spanish! That’s right: Clinton versus Obama, Giuliani versus McCain, shitty accents vs. shitty attempts at rolling their ‘r’s. Sadly, the nation’s fifth-largest network has come up with a way to rid the proceedings of such hilarity, and therefore deny us their only entertainment value:
Simultaneous translation would be provided to the candidates and viewers, creating a United Nations-like atmosphere on national television.
Too bad the same technology wasn’t used to spare Newt Gingrich.
