The New York Times has discovered a pattern among Mexican mothers that defies the general decline of fertility in the Big Apple: namely, they’re having babies and refusing to let up. Thanks to a 28% increase in births from these mamis from 2000 to 2005, Mexicans have vaulted into New York’s top trio of immigrant groups and sandwiched themselves between the Dominicans and Chinese—mmm, that makes us hungry. Dr. Iffath Hoskins, chairwoman of ob-gyn’s at a hospital treating immigrants from more than 100 countries, weighs in:

“Girls are having babies, becoming wives and mothers at a far earlier age. They tend to have more children because they bring their Mexican culture with them.”

We predict this spike in chicano births to pay off dividends by the year 3030.
