McDonald’s Screws Up The One Chance Illegal Immigrants Get to Define Their Role
6 June 2007, 3:30 PM. By Carlos Posas
Fast food for thought from Time online…unwitting American ambassador McDonald’s has lobbied for the Oxford English Dictionary to change its six year-old entry for the word McJob, calling it ‘insulting’ to employees–this, coming from a company whose entire workforce smells like french fries at the end of the day. The definition under fire? “An unstimulating, low-paid job with few prospects, especially one created by the expansion of the service sector.” Instead of bowing to the almighty power of the golden arches, the dictionary people want the public to opine on the matter. For our part, Guanabee humbly submits some synonyms:
• Working at Chipotle.
• Every job we’ve ever worked in the blogosphere. (except for this one, of course!)
• The only ‘career opportunity’ (in the loosest sense of the phrase) illegal immigrants find when they risk life and limb to cross the border into the U.S.
