Get used to the main character in the above clip, ‘cause his show just got the greenlight to be aired in the States. The slick animated series is called “El Chavo del Ocho”, and it details the day-to-day misadventures of an orphan surviving on the streets of a fictional neighborhood in Mexico City. The show’s concept originally comes from an old school live action sitcom of the same name. Plans are in the works to dub it in English, so put that loudmouth Dora the Explorer on notice—she’s got a fight on her hands with the new Latino cartoon in town, and he’s probably packing a knife.
[Ed. Note: In this episode, called “Culpa y Perdón” (Guilt and Pardon), the accusation hurled repeatedly at the boy is “ratero”—meaning thief.]
