Since 40% of Texans are Hispanic*, we found this Father’s Day themed, Texas anti domestic violence campaign of particular interest. But it seems the Austin-American Statesman is not so sure it’s that important:

University of Texas head football coach Mack Brown today joined Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott to rally behind a cause Abbott dared to call more important than Longhorns football: preventing domestic violence.

Ha. Ha. Ha? But what of Mack Brown? How does winning the NCAA championship in 2006 qualify one to talk about the sensitivities of domestic violence? Coach Mack weighs in about what he’s learned through the years:

If we don’t respect our opponents in football, we’re about to get beat. If you don’t respect your family, your family name, your wife, your children, your friends; if you don’t respect the law, then really you have nothing, because you can’t respect yourself.

Those damn sports analogies fly over our pretty little heads every time. And by the looks of it, they fly over Tejano and Los Lonely Boys bassist Joey “Jo-Jo” Garza’s head, too.

*(We made this statistic up, but we assure you, there are a lot of them.)
