Village Voice Discovers Lesbians Who Are Not White

The New York Village Voice featured a cover story recently on a fascinating trend: The ethnic Lesbian thug. They’re here, they’re queer and they are throwing dance parties with rap music. But, according to Voice writer Chloé Hilliard, some of the more aggressive (or AG for short) Black and Latina women who like women are doing more than dancing to the music. They are emulating misogynist rap culture.

“When you go to the club and you’re an AG, your mission that entire night is to find the baddest femme in the club and make her your girl,” says another woman, who calls herself Don Vito Corleone. “Just like every rapper wants the baddest video chick on his arm, so do AGs.”

Or so Voice reporter Chloe Hillard would have us think. But a little further investigation reveals a lesbian community not too happy with the coverage they received.

A woman featured in the Voice story who is simply referred to as Madison The [AG Party, Sinsation] Promoter has this to say on the homepage of her website:

As for The Lab’s Sinsation Party…Gangs are not a part of the repetoire [sic]… Femmes are not in danger… Aggressive women are not acting like seedy predators… You described them so negatively. One or two bad apples should not spoil the whole bunch… If two Irish men had an argument in a bar-should we label all Irish Pubs a place for all low-class Irish rough-necks to be violent?

Well, only on St. Patrick’s Day. And Saturdays.
