White Plight: Pizza Patron Is Accepting Pesos

Just after the ALMA awards last night, ABC news decided to re-air a scathing expose on the Southwestern American pizza chain Pizza Patron which started accepting pesos at their locations in March. Apparently with today’s touchy political climate, some Americans are none too happy about it. But owner Antonio Swad says he’s just trying to cater to his customer base which is largely Hispanic. He says the idea began during the holidays when customers returned from trips home to Mexico and wanted to spend their leftover pesos. It was so popular that Swad decided to make it a permanent thing. But opponents like Jean Towell President of Citizens for Immigration Reform wish he’d give America a break:
We are having to encounter so much that is not America anymore, that’s not the United States. We are inundated with having to read everything in two languages. We are having to deal with so much, giving over to people that are not citizens, that are here to have jobs.
Seriously. When will Mexicans stop exploiting us? Also, paging Jorge Ramos.

But yet Mexico and all of Europe accepts our “great” American dollars. I guess that’s OK…

Nobody tell Nightline about the American border towns whose entire economic infastructure is buillt on accepting pesos. Seriously, the majority of this country is so grossly out of touch with the realities of life in the Southwest.
