Canusa.7.20.07.jpg We were pointed to an interesting article on the issue of border security between Stanstead, Quebec, and Derby Line, Vt. The usual border town situation applies: sleepy communities, interdependent economies and social structures. (On one street, residents on one side are Canadian and the other side, American.) But our government is itching to provide some more formalized security than the current unguarded crossings monitored by security cameras. So what’s our beef?

The two towns have been asked by the border team to form a joint citizens’ committee, a process that is so far incomplete.

A far cry from the situation down south where a fence is being ordered by the government regardless of numerous protests from local citizens. Local citizens (surely only on the American side) do get to vote for the color, though (third item.) Wonder if they’ve heard that white is the new black.

We need any help we can get to keep the likes of Celine Dion, Bryan Adams, and Alanis up where they belong. Ryan Reynolds, however, can cross my border any time.
I can’t wait to hear Lila Downs’ new album on the plight of the Quebecois.

You might not have used a Supertroopers still to illustrate this post, but at least you didn’t quote Har-Mar, either.

I suppose that Ron Jeremy wannabe is passe, though, huh?
