Covering The Coverage: Fox News Will Not Stand For Ironic Latinos

The shit hit the fan today when Macy’s was accused of cultural insensivity due to a shirt we find quite funny, actually, pictured at right. As is usually the case, the ironic humor was completely lost on the people who make it their business to tell everyone else how to think. Cue Fox news with this report warning you against the evils of humor. We learned a lot in the video. It turns out the t-shirt was created by one of our sponsors, NaCo. (Whoops!) And that the rest of their tshirts are so “vulgar and and offensive” that Fox had to blur them out to protect you because “it would be inappropriate for [them] to show them to you.” We also met Dr. Ed Rincon. A Hispanic marketing “expert” who explains:
Macy’s doesn’t know a whole lot about what Hispanics want in the way of clothing. It also says that Macy’s doesn’t understand Hispanic culture. More importantly, it says that Macy’s doesn’t understand the Hispanics that lives [sic] in the U.S. and the kinds of products they are looking for.
NaCo informs us that they are almost sold out of the shirt.

Okay…so being among the brown nation I think it was short-sited of Macy’s to think they were only selling to Latinos (do people really still say “hispanics” in 2007?) We have brown brothers and sisters in all corners of the globe, and not all of us speak just Spanish. What about our Desi brothers and sisters? Our Middle Eastern/Arab brothers and sisters? Our Indigenous brothers and sisters? Our Pacific Islander brothers and sisters? Our blended brothers and sisters?
If they included more of the Brown nation they would have sold a hell of a lot more t-shirts in way the hell more stores.
Of course you’d have to have a culturally competent marketing strategy to do that….
I’m getting a Naco T-shirt for every unaborted Mexican immigrant worker I know.
@Eriqua: How did Macy’s exclude the other said “brown brothers and sisters?” I think it was the Hispanics (And, yes, I say it. Why not?) who assumed the insult proving we are the least humorous ethnic group in the world. Sometimes it’s really embarrassing to be Hispanic/Latino/WhateverISayYou’llFindSomethingWrongWithIt.

hispanic derives from the word of hispaniola, which is modern day haiti and the domican republic. Hispaniola comes from the roman name given to the people who lived in the Iberian peninsula, modern day Spain. Not all latinos came from hispaniola, so hispanic is a dated nixon term that should of died when he died. Just a given word to describe us latinos to make it easier for the government to group us in a big group that is incorrect.
Seriously give me a break the T-Shirt is dumb… and all it does is further this notion of latinos wanting to distance themselves from their African/native american blood.
Brown isn’t the new white… Brown is BETTER than white.
If you watch Telemundo or Univision (or GloboTV if you’re a Brasileiro like me), you would think most Latin Americans are really Scandinavians with a tan.
The only other group trying to be (look) whiter than south americans are the East Asians (Indians).
Brown is NOT the new white. Nor is brown better than white. It NEVER will be. To put it simply, white will always be the dominant race. I have no problem with LEGAL immigrants, however ILLEGAL immigrants need to get the hell out of the United States. They cheat the taxpayers out of money for their education, and various other rights. Rights that belong to CITIZENS of the States. From experience, it tends to be the “brown” that start the fights at schools and, in general, could care less about their education that we are providing for them. They take it all for granted. So as previously mentioned, brown is NOT the new white. Nor is brown better than white. It NEVER will be. Ever.
Is a little late for this fight. But i just can`t help to make an statement to this human being right above me.
Latino’s are not taking away your taxes for education… Since your whitie President Bush took over your great nation, those funds were addressed to weapons. So don’t blame us for your lack of education resources.

The intelligence level and his/her ability to apply said intelligence, not his/her skin color, of the next president will fix the problems of a mixed nation.
Illegal immigrants help put money back into a falling economy, and whitie president bush was only an aggravator of decreased fundings, not a starter.
