Fidel Castro Deathwatch: El Comandante’s Brother Covers For Him On Anniversary Of Cuban Revolution
27 July 2007, 2:30 PM. By Carlos Posas
Yesterday’s Cuba Revolution Day unofficially marked the one year anniversary of Fidel Castro’s last appearance in public, setting off the chain of events that would lead us to create this Deathwatch. (We would’ve covered the event as it went on, but that creepy cat took top priority.) The ailing dictator’s brother, Raul, stepped in for Fidel to deliver the main speech while the head Cuban continues to play hooky from leading his nation; naturally, Fidel’s continuing contribution to the cause was brought up:
“Not even during the most serious moments of his illness, did he fail to bring his wisdom and experience to each problem and essential decision,” the acting president said.
Translation? Recovering from intestinal surgery, Castro occasionally farted in their meetings to lighten things up.
