From Pre-Pubescent Skanks to Pubescent Skanks: the ‘Bratz’ Go To Hollywood

Known for 6 years since their inception as the sluttier, younger cousins of Barbie, the Bratz dolls have decided to shed the fishnets and mini-skirts in exchange for a more ‘polished’ look in their silver-screen debut. (Someone in marketing finally figured out that inspiring little girls to grow up into street trash wasn’t the best way to get at their daddy’s wallets.) And they’ve suckered a young Latina actress into helping them do it! “Bratz: the Movie” will feature Nathalia Ramos as the (presumably) Hispanic Brat named Yasmine. How best are her ethnically ambiguous name and features put to use? Why, in a message-loaded plot device, of course:

The Bratz might bare their midriffs, cake their faces in makeup and worship stiletto boots, but they know wrong from right: they decide to teach the school a lesson in diversity by winning a talent show. (Lionsgate describes the movie as “High School Musical” meets “Clueless” meets “Mean Girls.”)

There are so may dizzying contradictions in this quote, we don’t even know which one to go after. How about, there’s nothing more diverse and talented than a rainbow of prostitutes-in-training? Guess we’ll run with that one, ’cause our heads hurt now and we need a nap.
