Hollywood Joins Hipsters In Misappropriating Che, We Buy Into It

First, “Motorcycle Diaries,” now this. It has come to our attention that the first of two Che Guevara biopics begins shooting in a few days in Spain for release in 2008, the latest news being the addition of the Oscar-nominated actress from “Maria Full Of Grace” to the cast. Catalina Sandino Moreno will share the set with Benicio del Toro (Che in the flesh) and others. (Does that make del Toro a bloated version of Gael GarcĂa Bernal? We’d like to think so.) We’re torn about where we stand on the cultural significance of this so-called revolutionary, mainly because our dad used to say Che was nothing but a whiny and self-righteous rich kid who wanted to play freedom fighter. (Sounds like a quarter of the people we knew at NYU.)
Then Jay-Z came along and told us to wear the man’s face on a shirt, which we may have done if so many obnoxious hipsters hadn’t beaten us to the punch. Now the movies are using his image to turn a profit, and we’re drawn like moths to a commercialized flame. (So sue us! You’ll probably be right next to us in the theater.)

I heard the working title is “Maria llena de Le-Che“
That wasn’t a whine; it was more of a whinny, due Ernie’s asthma.

That’s so true. How about people who go to Manu Chao concerts…..
