In YouTube Land, “Latino” Means “Skanky Amateur Strippers”

Ever do a Google video / YouTube search for the word “latino”? We do all the time. (Official reason: to treat you to a buzz-inducing clip at the end of the day; unofficial reason: a slow news day.) More and more over recent weeks, however, putting that generic word into either engine brings up page after page of amateur and pseudo-professional stripteases. In fact, today’s search revealed that page 8 was the first one to display a majority of videos that didn’t involve tits, ass, thongs, or any combination thereof. [Full disclosure: we search for videos shorter than 4 minutes and sort results by date, but that doesn't excuse anything.] Now, we’re not asking for Google to rack its brain telling the difference between latino (generic adjective describing a people / culture) and latina (slutty exotic chick, according to the search). That’s too tall a demand.
We’re even cool with the fact that ‘latina’ as a tag is lumped in with porn, sexy, webcam, japanese, britney spears, hot, and undress. We totally consider it a credit to Latinas everywhere that they’re associated with videos called “Huge Boobs Slipp” (sic), “I love hard cocks”, and “Hot Show Bikini Dance.” The one thing that bothers us is that it’s no longer the media at large perpetuating the myth of the skanky Latina, dictating to us how to perceive them in a top-down system. Given its user-submitted format, YouTube shows the stereotyping is now coming from the bottom-up. To add insult to injury, most of these bitches ain’t even Latina! With that, we step off our soapbox and try “hispanic” instead.
