Mayorgate: So Much Mayor News It Hurts

After weeks of virtual silence from the left coast, a flood of developments and rumors have punctured our reclaimed virginal innocence regarding the love that dare not speak its name between Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Telemundo anchor Mirthala Salinas. First, we found the above video of the mayor getting heckled at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority meeting yesterday by a regular named John Walsh who has been creatively nicknamed, “gadfly.” (Somebody get those city employees their own show!) It seems Walsh is upset that the mayor came in an hour late and that, oh yeah, he fucked a news anchor. Next, the Associated Press is reporting that the Univision ethics investigation of Mirthala Salinas has wrapped up and should be released sometime next week. While word around the blogosphere is that it could be happening as early as tomorrow afternoon. (Don’t they know we don’t work weekends?)

Elsewhere around the internet, commenters speculate that the Mayor will be conveniently out of town this weekend with his son. (Dropping him off at Princeton, maybe?) Plus, an interesting plot development: NBC Universal ( the parent company of Telemundo) seems to be in negotiations with the mayor’s office for a three billion dollar land deal. So this could explain why they’re taking all this time to figure out whether or not a reporter who sleeps with her subject is in breach of journalistic integrity. Oh what wicked webs we weave. We are sticking with gossip mongering. It’s a much cleaner profession.
