Old_Flame_Cantante_7_26_07.jpg With the nationwide release of “El Cantante” fast approaching, the movie we hate to love is getting the good ol’ soft news treatment in the papers–complete with profiles of people who knew the biopic’s subject, salsa legend Hector Lavoe, before he hit it big. Enter Carmen Ramírez, the woman Lavoe dated right before marrying his wife Puchi (pictured here and played by Jennifer Lopez). Ramírez sets the record straight about her and her rival for Lavoe’s love, implying that the casting people made a terrible mistake:

Puchi had “a pretty face and beautiful, long black hair” but “didn’t have a shape,” Ramírez said of the real-life character played by López. “I was the opposite; I had legs and, like Héctor said, a big rear end that would come into a room five minutes after I would come in!”

Ah, the bitter irony, provided by a bitter ex. We wonder if by sheer coincidence, Lavoe was actually a beefcake with rippling muscles in real life.

Thanks for the laugh we so needed that. Memory is a tricky commodity, it can spoil.
