Rodrigo Y Gabriela Wish You Were Here

Boy, we can’t turn on the internet without hearing about this Rodrigo and Gabriela all the kids are listening to. So we decided to find out more about them. Turns out they’re Mexican by way of Dublin. (Not sure how that happened. We didn’t want to work that hard.) Though they both play acoustic guitar on stage, they are really into metal. And according to their site, this spring “they beat both the Arctic Monkeys AND Johnny Cash to number one in the Irish charts.” Eat your heart out Los Primeros. They describe their music as having mainly Latin harmonies and rhythms but with a rock structure.

We don’t improvise; our solos are exactly what’s on the record, as a metal fan and guitarist you always want to hear the same fucking solo!

Well, then. Rock out with your cocks out, but we choose to feature one of their performances with a decidedly mellower vibe: a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here” from their performance last night at New York’s Summer Stage. The quality kind of sucks, but what do you want? This is citizen journalism.
