As Far As Acting Goes, Marc Anthony Is A Great Singer

The reviews are in and it’s clear the Hector Lavoe biopic, “El Cantante,” starring Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez, is not going to win any Oscars. It could, however, get into the Guinness Book Of World Records for being the world’s longest music video. At least according to New York Times film critic A.O. Scott who says the story:

…develops through an exhausting, confusing series of montages punctuated by short, crude moments of ham-fisted melodrama. [The director’s] generosity with [the] musical moments compensates both for Mr. Anthony’s shortcomings and for the frenetic incoherence of his own storytelling […] It may be best to approach “El Cantante” less as a movie than as a two-hour promotional video for a must-have soundtrack album.

In that case, just save yourself ten bucks and watch their other music video instead about a self-sabotaging man with AIDS and the woman who loves him:

the absolute worst part of this whole latinass circus was that at the end, it makes it clear that hector lavoe “died of AIDS as a result of drug use.” as if it wasn’t clear from all the needles in his arms, j.lo just needed to make sure we all knew hector did not ever, not even once, have butt sex. i could go on about this horrible piece of shit movie but it’s just not funny. it was a really sad, spoon feeding monster that lacked any beauty in storytelling or class, making every wrong decision possible. even marc anthony’s talent was overshadowed by made for mtv Tr3s cut aways, cheesy texture, and need i mention the goddamn subtitles??!!
