Brazilian Government Okays Free Sex-Change Operations, Pope Collapses

Just months after duking it out with the Pope over handing out free condoms, the Brazilian public health system (whose unwitting poster girl is, let’s face it, Gisele) has taken one more step towards Hades by agreeing to provide free sex-change operations to candidates who qualify. The agreement is the result of a federal court case where prosecutors argued that sexual reassignment surgery falls under one’s constitutional right to medical care, prompting the judge to rule thusly:

…from the biomedical perspective, transsexuality can be described as a sexual identity disturbance where individuals need to change their sexual designation or face serious consequences in their lives, including intense suffering, mutilation and suicide.

Clearly. Watching “Boys Don’t Cry” and “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” back-to-back could have told you that. (And make you hate your mom, too.) Regardless of the fact the government said “it lacked the funds to pay for sex-change operations,” we figure Brazil will be popping out telenovela stars in no time!
