Catholic Cardinals Do the Darndest Things

American prosecutors are investigating whether the head honcho of the Catholic Church in Mexico arranged for a priest to go on the lam in Los Angeles, knowing he had raped a former altar boy back home. They allege that Cardinal Norberto Rivera relied on L.A. Cardinal Roger Mahoney–abused Angelenos recall that name fondly–to receive Father Nicolas Aguilar at the other end of this Underground Rapist Railroad. (We’re copyrighting that, by the way.) The best part? Since this alleged switcheroo, Aguilar has gone back on the run on his native soil; this time, American officials are after him for multiple charges of sexual abuse. It just goes to show you: when chummy, high-powered Church officials put their heads together, they can be responsible for countless incidents of rape and violation. Point us to the seminary.
