Classic “Sabado Gigante” Clip Teaches Us The Spanish Word For Hot Pants

There’s a library of Don Francisco moments on YouTube, but this is one of our faves: “The Don” interviewing a young couple in the audience of his variety show “Sabado Gigante” back in 1981, (as witnessed by the Hector Lavoe vibe homeboy’s got going on), about how the couple first met. The young woman replies that she met her man at a fair where he was selling her some “ropa jopant.” That’s hot pants to you and me. (Or ho pants works, too.) That particular vocabulary word has never come to our attention before, but we are certainly going to start using it now! Especially after hearing Don Francisco’s moving ballad, “Todo Empezo Por Un Jopant.”
