Fidel Castro Deathwatch: El Comandante Reveals A Modest Side, Calls Himself the “Eternal Flame”
1 August 2007, 1:36 PM. By Carlos Posas
In an essay that hit Havana newsstands today entitled “A Reflection By The Commander-In-Chief: The Eternal Flame,” the vacationing aging Fidel Castro said that Cuba is “marching ahead” without him at the head of the island’s government. We’re not quite sure if that implies progress, or if Castro’s just too old to catch up to his people at the many parades they organize. Either way, the guy won’t say whether he’ll ever return to “what some call power” but does offer this rhetorical question:
“What will I do? Fight on without rest like I did all my life,” he wrote.
We’d advise against that, Fidel: the other folks at the nursing home might complain about the racket you cause with all that late-night fighting.
