We’ve had assistant editor Carlos Nobleza Posas continuously pushing refresh on his browser for the past 72 hours and still no news of a dead Cuban dictator. The official word from Havana is that Fidel Castro is very much alive and dancing the babalu while the American press claims the rumors of his death intensified in Miami Friday because local officials began organizing their plans for the day when Castro really does die. Tampa Bay’s local CBS affiliate, however, had this to add yesterday:
[Miami police] Chief John Timoney said, “Two nights ago, the head of the FBI called me, at about 11 o clock at night at [sic] said the chatter is stronger and more frequent then usual, so, there is something there.”
Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Florida) said, “The news is, there is no news. And so we wait.” Maybe she can take over refreshing for Carlos.
Miami Police Chief: “something there” in rumors about Castro [TampaBay’s 10 News]

Wonder what the locals in Miami will do the day he’s actually pronounced dead…
A Parade?
Or will all the cubans that care about the island go on a fleet of boats to take over the island?
