It Only Took Three Days For The Media To Call Alberto Gonzales A Piñata

Blogger Ken Burns Hates Mexicans made an interesting prediction about the Alberto Gonzales resignation coverage that only took a few days to come to fruition:
As predicted in an earlier post, the gringo journalists have begun the Alberto Gonzales/piñata references […]In a conversation with the Ragin’ Cajun himself, strategist James Carville, [Matt] Lauer opined that Dems would be sad to see their “piñata” gone, no longer available to knock around anymore. Gringo blogs insisted the remark was racist. As for me, I don’t know, more lazy choice of metaphor I would argue.
Best part of the report, though, is the definition of a piñata provided for the culturally challenged: “A piñata is a brightly-coloured paper container filled with sweets and/or toys. It is generally suspended on a rope from a tree branch or ceiling and is commonly used during Mexican celebrations..”
As opposed to when the Mexicans themselves are swinging from a tree. That’s called a Texas Rangers party.

i do agree that it would be lazy to use “piñata” as a metaphor. but although more relevant, “waterboarding” isn’t as sexy or ‘es-spicy.’
It took only three days? The Fourth Estate is dumbing down.
By the way, the definition of the piñata is as follows: clay container decorated as a seven-pointed star filled with dulces symbolizing the seven capital sins…it is beaten on Christmas eve as a symbol of the destruction of sin.
