J. Lo To Executive Produce A Quinces Reality Show, Add Some Cheese To That Whine

JLo_Quinces_Show_8_30_07.jpg Proving once again that Latino culture is best presented as an extravagant trainwreck, J. Lo is bankrolling a reality series about a quintet of Miami teens who operate a business that exclusively plans quinceañeras. “The Amigas Sweet 15 Club” (get it?!) captures the tweener trials and tribulations of a singer, a DJ, a graphic artist, and two “et ceteras” as they engage the cutthroat and classy quinces market of south Florida. The storyboard sounds more predictable than most:

Each episode of the potential series would focus on a different girl and on how her family and cultural background play into planning the event.

Hmmm, cultural backgrounds packaged for reality TV… Guess that means some zany, pseudo-scripted drama will occur when the mother of the singer girl replaces all her Mariah Carey CDs with Celia Cruz LPs. (Now that’s entertainment!) All we can say is, as long as it’s still in the development phase, there’s still hope that it’ll get scrapped in favor of a similar series with a smaller production budget.

Latino culture is not a “trainwreck.” Whoever wrote that is an ignoramus who presumes to know and speak for an entire “culture” when they probably only know a little corner of it. It’s like a Southerner saying he speaks for “White people.” Its laughable.
Arriba los Latinos!

i don’t think that’s what the lovely folks at guanabee meant. what they meant was that latino culture is palatable through the lens of crass commercialism.

i’ll buy this thing when they show the tias w/the big tetas dancing drunk in the corner.

Speaking of train wrecks and J-Lo, Did you catch her “acting” in El Cantante? Made Marc Anthony look like Sir Laurence Olivier in comparison.

My apologies to the lovely folks at Guanabee. I must have been hung over when I speed read through your post. Damn Tequila!

I am unbelievably excited…. The quinces episodes were already my favorite on “My Super Sweet 16.” Damn bratty/fabulous Miami girls…
