Proving once again that Latino culture is best presented as an extravagant trainwreck, J. Lo is bankrolling a reality series about a quintet of Miami teens who operate a business that exclusively plans quinceañeras. “The Amigas Sweet 15 Club” (get it?!) captures the tweener trials and tribulations of a singer, a DJ, a graphic artist, and two “et ceteras” as they engage the cutthroat and classy quinces market of south Florida. The storyboard sounds more predictable than most:

Each episode of the potential series would focus on a different girl and on how her family and cultural background play into planning the event.

Hmmm, cultural backgrounds packaged for reality TV… Guess that means some zany, pseudo-scripted drama will occur when the mother of the singer girl replaces all her Mariah Carey CDs with Celia Cruz LPs. (Now that’s entertainment!) All we can say is, as long as it’s still in the development phase, there’s still hope that it’ll get scrapped in favor of a similar series with a smaller production budget.
