Latin Gossip Magazine Secretly Snickers, Publicly Apologizes After Running Photo Of Dead Telenovela Icon

Ernesto_Alonso_Dead_8_21_07.jpg The latest issue of sensational gossip pub TV y Novelas issues a gushing apology for publishing a supposed photo of late telenovela legend Ernesto Alonso, pictured here, minutes before he was cremated. Given that Alonso was basically the Merv Griffin of Mexican telenovelas (except more prolific), we admit that it’s natural for fans to consider this tasteless. Certainly tasteless enough to justify the double standard existing between Latin American newspapers, who show lifeless bodies from crime scenes like there’s no tomorrow, and gossip rags, whom no one expects to do the same with famous people. Then again, since the covers of TV Y Novelas usually look like the bastard children of Us Weekly and People En Español, it doesn’t surprise us that they stooped thusly to pull ad sales. Next up: alien autopsy photos!
