Not Content To Be Just the New White, Brown Is Also the New Black

Beyonce_Irreemplazable_8_1_07.jpg That is, if Beyoncé represents all Black people. (Which she obviously does.) The pop star has announced the late month release of an 8 track EP featuring a Spanish version of her hit “Irreplaceable,” among others. Meaning, it’s not long before we cringe at “Ya lo ves! Ya lo ves!” blaring up and down the block. [Ed. Note: Contrary to popular belief, “A la izquierda! A la izquierda!” are not the opening lyrics to “Irreemplazable.” Trust us: we watched the video, like, a second ago.] To ensure lock up mass distribution, Beyoncé has joined the dark side known as MTV Tr3s—known for such condescending original programming as “Mi TRL” and interview segment “Qiu and Ey.” A network suit proves that the marketing juggernaut has no shame:

“Young Latinos really connect with Beyoncé’s inner Latina and ‘Irreemplazable’ is her way of doing something extra special for her Latino fans,” said Michael Galbe, Vice President, Music and Talent, MTV Tr3s.

We’re now taking bets on whether Beyoncé’s inner Latina would do a regular quince or a destination quince.

If Beyonce has an inner latina, then it’s ok if I have an inner white girl or an inner asian girl …

What a mess, what a mess.

I know as many Latinas as the next person and none of them, including my 2 exes, mentioned anything about B’s inner Latina. Give me a fricken break. Stop assuming that certain groups are looking to be pandered to, that’s insulting. You can acknowledge group’s support patronizing them.
