Magazine circulation figures for the first half of 2007 have been released, and celebrity rags like Us Weekly and In Touch Weekly are the industry’s only real winners with a 5 to 10% increase from last year. We can’t say we’re all that surprised, given that the same reason they thrive is the same reason we’re forced to mention J. Lo at least once a week; nevertheless, we were horrified to read that OK! Weekly’s circulation has jumped a whopping 54%. All we have to say is, God forbid it has anything to do with Eva and Tony whoring out their wedding pictures. Luckily, someone else’s bad news lifted our spirits:
People magazine, with a less intensive focus on celebrities and a less sensational tone than some of the others, still outsells them all, but its circulation dropped about 2 percent, to more than 3.7 million.
The conspiracy theorist in us says the dip is a result of readers flocking to People En Español. Everyone knows people get bored with you the minute they find out you have a younger, sluttier Latina sister.
