Well, this is one way to get fired: The principal of the Unity Center for Urban Technologies, Maritza Tamayo, paid someone to lead several Santeria rituals at her Manhattan school to get rid of “negative energy.” According to a former assistant principal, the staff often joked about sweeping the school with sage because of the students’ consistently bad behavior. Apparently Ms. Tamayo took the idea seriously. What’s worse, she’s accused of coercing her staff members into paying for the rituals. Proving she may be dumb, but she ain’t stupid.

[Former Assistant Principal Melody] Crooks-Simpson told investigators she didn’t attend the ceremony with the chicken blood, but showed up to school a few days later in a white dress to participate in another ceremony because Tamayo said it wouldn’t work without her. She said Tamayo charged her $900 for the rite.

Too bad they’re firing her, because we personally would never step out of line with a principal who practices voodoo.
