Antonio Banderas’Nasonex Voiceover: A Pedro Almodovar Case In Point

AB_NasonB_09_27_07.jpg

Earlier we pointed out the fact that Spanish director Pedro Almodovar recently publicly claimed we are having a crisis of infantilism in American cinema. We didn’t have to look far to find an example of what America does with an actor vs. what our Spanish auteur would do. Case in point: Antonio Banderas. For those of you not in the know, (and shame on you if you don’t, by the way), Antonio was essentially discovered by Almodovar in the mid 80’s and, because of him, was lucky enough to star in, basically, the best movies not only of his career, but of most people’s careers. Flash forward 20 years and one tacky, blonde American wife later to the Nasonex Bee. Oh how the mighty, Spanish hunks have fallen. Why Antonio? Why? (The commercial after the jump, in case you haven’t seen it)

I have seen the Nasonex commercial I don’t know how many times. And I always wondered if the bee’s voice over was Antonio Banderas. I have seen other actors do voice overs for commercials: Gene Hackman for Loews and Sean Conner for Level 3. But Antonio Banderas for nasal congestion is kind of lame.

George Clooney does the Budweiser commercials and Queen Latifah has done ads for Pizza Hut among others. But yeah Antonio Banderas voicing a nasally congested bee is incredibly whack. Hope he got paid well.

What cracks me up about this is that every time the commerical comes un, my mom starts going off about pendejo ad agencies that hire gringos to do bad Spanish-accent voiceovers. D’oh!

It isn’t Antonio Banderas who does the voice of the Nasonex Bee, it’s Joachim de Almeida, who actually played his evil brother in Desperado…

@rosa: It is Antonio Banderas. You can check the listing in his IMDB profile.

@carnitas: Um, I think that was a joke.

@La Cindy: woops!
