In an effort to counteract false information circulating on the internet about easy refugee status in Canada, Immigration officials there have begun to spread the message that “Canada does not give preferential treatment to illegal Mexican refugees.” (Um, that’s not what we heard.) The authorities were alerted by Eddie Francis, the mayor of the border city of Windsor, Ontario. According to The Canadian Press:

Windsor […] has seen an influx of 200 Mexican refugees - and counting - in little more than a week. The surging number of migrants will likely “shatter” the city’s social services budgets, Francis said.

Could this be the beginning of the end of the free love between the Mexicanadians? Or is Canada just trying to look tough in front of the world? Only time will tell.
