Mexican teen idols RBD are beloved throughout Latin America as the model of lip-synching, tip-frosted youth. Which is why we were so distraught when we heard that young “band” member Christian Chavez was busted in May for buying a joint in downtown Manhattan. Says People En Español:

[A]lthough Chávez says that he was offered the marijuana, the police report indicates that the arrest happened because the singer was seen buying it from a man named Curtis Bedford on the corner of Bleecker and Sullivan Sts. at 5:50 p.m. Policeman Brian Goldsborough arrested both of them immediately and took the marijuana from Chávez.

Hmmm…perhaps Christian’s little habit explains why Wikipedia describes him thusly:

[Christian] is the clown of them all, and is said by the rest of the group that he is the first to lift spirits up when something has gone wrong.

Lift spirits, indeed. But an incident like this can really make a young man take stock of his life and Christian is no exception. On his website, he had this to say to all the “Girls, boys and young people all over the world”:

I just want to reiterate to all of you that RBD is a group that promotes the values of youth, and now it’s my turn to try to wake up the people who might be in danger. As hard as life can be, it is beautiful, and it’s better to live in the present. I love you and I ask God that you’ll forgive me for failing you.
