While reading about National Gypsum, a global construction supply company that’s using El Chapulin Colorado for their new marketing campaign, we were very surprised to learn one very interesting detail. The word chapulin means grasshopper. So El Chapulin Colorado translated really means, the red grasshopper. Those of us who aren’t Mexican just figured he was just some funny superhero in red tights with long antennae. But why would a construction company want to use a red grasshopper for their ads? Find out after the jump!

“El Chapulin Colorado is a very powerful character known for his honesty, integrity and ability to get the job done,” said David Drummond, director of marketing for National Gypsum. “His popularity transcends all Hispanic nationalities and across all generations, so the selection for him to represent National Gypsum to increase brand awareness of our products among Hispanic construction workers is perfect.”

Wonder what they’ll pay him for a day of work.
