Philip Rodriguez Thinks The Only Thing Latinos Have In Common Is The Baby Jesus And Spanglish

Filmmaker Philip Rodriguez is a self-appointed explorer of the Latino state in America, but hardly a Latino Spielberg, (we’re still waiting for him). We previously spat some blurbs about his latest documentary, ‘Brown Is The New Green: George Lopez And The American Dream’, during which he follows Chicano joke slinger George Lopez into the depths of what it’s like to be brown in a güero’s town. Rodriguez recently disclosed that he doesn’t agree with America’s homogeneous perspective of Latinos because all we really have in common is the baby Jesus and Esspaneesh.

What are the commonalities between a member of the Cuban bourgeois who came here in 1959, and a peasant from Michoacan who came here yesterday?” he asked. “Other than language, and maybe Catholicism, I’m not sure there are many.

It’s about time somebody said it! However, we’d like to think that superb sexual prowess and exquisite dance floor dry-humping skills would have made the list.

I think we’ve been saying it for years. Then again, we’re the only ones who recognize a difference.

Can we add “uncut cocks” to the list of commonalities?

I actually agree that language and maybe religion are what most of us Latinos have in common. But the weight of those 2 commonalities is profound.

Language is detrimental to a culture in order to pass down our stories and traditions.

Religion is so private and personal and yet, most of us still belong to the Catholic family. That’s a HUGE force.

I’d rather have 2 extremely important common bonds with fellow latinos than 40 boring ones.

Are we all not snipped at birth?

I wonder if we could possibly add Morrisey and the Cure to the list as well. :)

Duh OBVS. All it took was two Latino club meetings and plenty of stares/comments I couldn’t relate to from “fellow” Latinos to figure that one out for myself.

And yeah, most I know are circumsized. Though maybe not ones born in the old country.
