Ten Latinos were chosen across the U.S. this week for their essays about the importance of a good education. DeVry University’s “Mi Gente Con Mente” national essay contest, gave the winners a $1,000. Good luck even buying your textbooks with that amount of money. For those of you inspired to enter next year, we thought we’d come up with some topics for you, after the jump.
- Discuss in 300 words or less the time you thought of a never before used gang initiation method that you felt got you in.
- Who is the relative you promised you’d buy a house for after you graduate and why?
- How many jobs do you think you will have before you drop out of college after realizing tuition is too fucking expensive?
- How many angry people of color rallies do you estimate you will participate in as you alienate yourself from everyone else on campus?
-Compare and contrast, the size of your dorm room with the bedroom at home you shared with 3 brothers and sisters.
Go to it, students. Or, you know, just roll over and watch “Dawson’s Creek”.

- Easier to hook up with—co-eds who find brown exotic or that one chick from around the way who’s been flashin’ titties since the eighth grade?
- How did you feel when that white guy assumed you were the drug dealer when you walked into his dorm to drop off his roommate’s copy of “Democracy In America”?
- Seriously, how awesome is it that we got college credits for taking AP Spanish and passing it with a 5. Pretty great, huh?

This is what passes for snark on this blog? It sucks when the commenters’ jokes are funnier than the editor’s.
