According to an e-mail some publicist sent us, the Disney Channel has officially hopped on the Hispanic Heritage Month bandwagon with something that panders to brown consumers even more shamelessly than genealogy. To jive with the month’s kick off tomorrow, the network that Mickey built will be airing insanely popular Spanish-language versions of hits from “High School Musical 2.” (Be still, our beating hearts!) Naturally, the movie’s token Latina—this time interpreted by a girl who keeps her clothes on, seen here—is the one who gets her songs showcased:
Mexico’s Paulina Holguin is again featured in a music video of “Gotta Go My Own Way” (“Por Mi Camino Iré”), a love song that marks Gabriella’s turning point in the movie, one where she accepts that the summer plans she and Troy made won’t be working out.
And that the newfound fame she earned by flashing her chocha all over the internets will open up all sorts of new opportunities. (Life couldn’t imitate art more eerily than if this Troy kid were played by Zac Efron in the original. But he is.)
