New York Times Wedding Celebrations: We’ve Got A Live One

Just the other day we were talking here at Guanabee headquarters about the zero presence of Latinos in The New York Times wedding announcements. Being that they’re like the Emmy’s of wedding announcements, it’s something highly coveted by high New York society. In fact, we know one young Jewish woman whose father bit his nails to nubs over whether or not her wedding announcement would be chosen for the coveted spot, such is its association with having made it. The criteria usually include a well-connected, wealthy family and a couple with an ivy league education. As a result, you’re more likely to find names like Brittain Stone or Dawson Horn III than Chuleta Ramirez.

But this Sunday, we were thrilled to spot Marie Villafuerte and Pablo Alfaro amongst the list of New York’s most well bred. Marie, the daughter of a New York-New Jersey Port Authority building maintenance worker father and a Brooklyn building manager mother, graduated Harvard and received her MD from the Albert Einstein School of Medicine. She is keeping her name.

Alfaro is the son of a playwright mother from Boston whose most recent work, “Sailing down the Amazon,” was performed at Boston Playwrights Theater in January. His father, who is retired, was a professor of Romance languages at Tufts University. Alfaro not only graduated from Swarthmore College, he has a master’s degree in economics from the London School of Economics AND a law degree from Columbia AND an M.B.A. from NYU. Unfortunately, the couple didn’t make it into the photographed section, so we don’t have a real picture of them, but baby steps people. Congrats to all.
