Pedro Almodovar Wants To See More Trannies In American Cinema

Spanish director Pedro Almodovar (”All About My Mother”, “Talk To Her”) has publicly criticized the state of American cinema. Pedrito believes there is a crisis in cinema around the world, but thinks the quality found specifically in America is especially, oh what’s the word, shitty.

“In America, it’s perhaps not a crisis in terms of creativity, but in terms of quality. The quality of films being made there is simply not comparable to those before the 1960s. This is more than just a juvenile audience, I think it’s become infantile. More and more, these films seem like children’s electronic toys, like Nintendo.”

We guess “Superbad” didn’t carry it’s weight in homo-erotic overtones, but don’t worry Pedrito. There’s a hot new tranny in the making that will knock your socks off.

    The man is brilliant. But I disagree: there are great movies coming out from America right now. I just recently saw “Into The Wild” and while not Almodova brilliant, it was a great movie.

    Carnitas,

    But this is one film out of tons of trash that Hollywood usually creates. All across Latin America, Spain, France, etc there are films that courageously tackle issues like sexuality, identity (sexual, cultural), segregation, integrations, politics, race, religion, etc that American production companies are usually too scared to touch. I think calling out the ‘infantile’ audiences isn’t too harsh because they exist, and are influencing the market to the point that Hollywood dishes out merely what sells. The rest of the simply doesn’t fall into that category.

    @angel dust,

    I don’t disagree that there are bad movies made in America, but there are also brilliant ones out there. Also note that the foreign films that make it to the United States are the best ones. We don’t get to see all the the bad stuff that these countries put out there.

    Even the trash or commercial movies in other countries is more grown up, what was the last sexy(not porn) American movie? “relationship” movies are all chaste, prudish chick-flicks in the US. Indie art movies are passive agressive couples mumbling to each other. This past year Hollywood has been in an almost total capitulation to 8 year olds and 40 year old virgins.
