President of Mexico, Felipe Calderon (a.k.a. Fecal), has proposed to kick up his country’s tax income by about a third every year with a sweeping reform of the way his government collects the shiz. One of the most controversial measures that’ll have to pass in a country loaded with tax evaders, both rich and poor, goes after people who are paid off the books—street vendors, taxi drivers, putas, etc. They’ll be hit directly in their bank accounts with a 2% tax on big deposits. As you can imagine, this hasn’t gone over too well with politicians who tend to rouse the rabble among migrant workers that send dough home from the U.S.:
“Our countrymen are up there working like burros and paying U.S. taxes, and now we’re going to take another 2% from them?” said Rep. Juan Carlos Velasco, a member of the opposition Institutional Revolutionary Party. “That doesn’t make sense. I mean, we drove those people out because we failed to created opportunities for them.”
Yezzir, sounds like a classic case of getting fucked on both sides of the border. But what are you gonna do about it? At least they were lovingly referred to as a bunch of asses.
