South Texas Paper: Not Even La Virgen Could Save the G.O.P.

Enjoy some entertaining, political analysis from this weekend’s opinion page of the Valley Morning Star:
The bet now is that, whoever is the Republican candidate in 2008, he will not get the Latino vote even if he picks la Virgen de Guadalupe as his running mate.
The Democrats’ answer to Our Lady? Why, Hillary Clinton, of course! (Picture la Virgen with cankles.) According to the paper, she’s a lock on the brown ballot “because the conventional wisdom is that Republicans committed political suicide when the immigrant reform bill failed in Congress.” As if that weren’t enough to boost her Latino-wooing powers, Clinton wants to get by with a little help from her friends:
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has signed on… Former Latino political boy wonder, Henry Cisneros, a Hillary favorite during his Washington days, must be waiting in the wings.
[Insert needle-scratch sound effect here.] Wait, what?! We’re embarrassed at the thought that Villafornicatorgosa and Cisneros–who played the role of slimy, Latino mayor before Villaraigosa–are among her Latino poster children. Good luck getting votes touting those scumbags, Hildog.

for the record, so far at least, henry c. is supporting bill richardson.
Also for the record, Richardson is kind of a tool that’s constantly having to yank his foot out of his mouth, but that’s besides the point.
Hillary’s big in the RGV. From The Monitor in McAllen, TX on 8/18/07:
“From Jan. 1 to June 30, 2007, Clinton’s campaign took in $574,276 in donations from Valley residents, more than a quarter of the $2.1 million she took in statewide over the same period.”
I couldn’t afford her $2300 a plate fund raiser, but someone paid for me to attend. Good times, good food, good liquor, rich Mexicans, etc etc…
Who’s Fabian Nunez rooting for?
