Stephen Colbert Loses His Edge While Discussing A Solution To Illegal Immigration

In the above clip of “The Colbert Report,” Stephen returns from his summer break mysteriously unwitty to discuss the “hot button issue” of illegal immigration–or should he say, “un topic caliente button?” (That’s just the tip of the corny, bilingual iceberg.) The king of conservative impersonation uses his regular segment “The Word” to address the news that something like 11,000 laborers are working for new U.S.-owned farms in Mexico, a phenomenon he un-cleverly dubs ’southsourcing.’ But that ain’t all: he assails the audience with gag after gag involving words, names, and symbols common to the Spanish language that’re supposed to be funny cuz they’re foreign. Obviously, the crowd eats it up. We do give him credit, though for getting a chubby over Jimmy Smitts and keeping his fingers crossed that the Mexicans don’t build a border fence when said outsourcing leads to unemployment in the States.
