Armageddon Continues In California; Citizens Fight Back.
23 October 2007, 10:55 AM. By Guanabee Staff
There’s nothing funny (except this, oh and this) about those fires in Southern California that continued to ravage houses and thousands of acres of land, (at least 267,000 as of the latest count), for a second day yesterday. Every available firefighting unit from as far away as Nevada and Arizona has been summoned to help contain the fires that have already displaced more than 250,000 people. As many as 1,500 National Guard troops, including 200 from the Mexican border, have also been deployed to assist with further evacuation. Still, there are not enough firefighters to cover the immense area that the fires have overtaken and many have been left to fend for themselves:
Dozens of men, women and children in Canyon Country, north of Los Angeles, grabbed shovels and garden hoses and fought flames creeping up a canyon within 50 feet of their homes.
About seven children and young teenagers worked in tandem with their parents as the flames approached their back fences.
Nothing like a wild fire creeping up your back door to bring the family together. Amazingly, there has only been one casualty since the fire started –here’s hoping it stays that way. For Britney’s sake.
