Bolivian Soldier Who Killed Che Guevara Has Vision Restored, Can Now See Che On Everybody’s T-Shirt.
2 October 2007, 1:19 PM. By Daniel Mauser
The man who killed Ernesto “Che” Guevara forty years ago was reportedly under the knife in Cuba last year undergoing cataract surgery that restored his vision. Mario Teran was the Bolivian soldier who drew the straw to be Che’s executioner. Can you imagine what that was like?
Soldier #1: I didn’t get it.
Soldier #2: Neither did I.
Mario Teron: [Distracted with food] Hey pass the salt.
Soldier: Mario, you have it!
Mario: Have what?
We’re only getting word now because Cuban communists are some conniving motherfuckers and they decided to reveal the news days before celebrations mark the 40th anniversary of Che’s death.
They’ve even managed to skew this as some sort of posthumous victory for Che:
“Four decades after Mario Teran attempted to destroy a dream and an idea, Che returns to win yet another battle,” the Communist Party’s official newspaper Granma proclaimed. “Now an old man, [Teran] can once again appreciate the colors of the sky and the forest, enjoy the smiles of his grandchildren and watch football games.”
And he can also appreciate Che’s image on those grandchildren’s t-shirts, but do you think he still has the straw?
