Chavela Vargas recently scoffed at a proposed lifetime achievement award from the Latin Grammys, insisting that they should probably shove it up their asses instead.

“I’m a little confused, because I don’t understand it. They are giving it to me now, after 40 years?”, the singer asked…Without beating around the bush, the popular singer added that important awards have been given to her by the public, not by record companies. “I have one of the biggest awards that is given out and only one woman in Latin America has it, which is me: the Great Cross of the Order of Isabel la Católica,” the singer said proudly.

Ay Chavelita, just take your free gift basket and let Marc Anthony tell you what a great artist he thinks you are even though he has that dirty grin.

    @Camuflada:
    She was in fact born in Costa Rica, but moved to Mexico when she was 14 because Tecos basically sucked when it came to progressive music. She identified more with being a Mexicana, as she eloquently put it:

    “Who is Chavela Vargas in Costa Rica? -Nobody. Because they’re ignorants. A country that has no army and still declares war to Iraq? Bring’em on! I have nothing there. But here in Mexico I have my friends. In Guadalajara, in Tepoztlán. I lack nothing.”

    Cheers.
